Home Affairs Opens An Application Center At Menlyn Mall
Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has revealed that the plan to offer services at main shopping malls is on track as systems and equipment have been set up at Menlyn Mall in Tshwane, Gauteng. During the department’s Budget Vote Debate in 2022, Motsoaledi announced that they would do everything in their power to provide the public with multiple platforms to acquire identification and travel documents from Home Affairs.

“Immediately after officially opening this Menlyn Mall Pilot, we will go to Cresta Mall in Johannesburg, the Pavillion in eThekwini, and Tygervalley here in Cape Town,” Motsoaledi said.
The Minister said they believe all of those will be functional before the end of the coming financial year. The main aim of providing multiple platforms was to avoid the long queues and their attendant other hardships.

The Department of Home Affairs do not pay for rental for the next five years because this project is mutualism, according to Motsoaledi. “We bring people to come and do their shopping, and the Malls give us space and other convenient facilities. So we both gain,” Motsoaledi added. The Minister also revealed that they will significantly expand the platform to acquire identification documents on the day they open Menlyn Mall as they will be receiving 20 new mobile Home Affairs units. Home Affairs has only 100 such vehicles, and they are all fitted with in-built generators to deal with load shedding.
